BIO

Gabriele De Vito bridges the worlds of industry leadership and academic research as a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Salerno. With over 25 years of technology experience, his career has evolved from software development to executive leadership roles, where he managed enterprise architecture teams of 120+ professionals. As former CTO at Innovaway, he administered multi-million euro contracts and raised over 20M euros in funding while driving R&D initiatives. His earlier executive tenure at CID Software Studio saw him transform the organization by strategically implementing agile methodologies, growing revenue from 500K to 15M euros. Since 2021, Gabriele has dedicated himself to education as a Computer Science Teacher with Italy's Ministry of Education while providing specialized consultancy in digital transformation and R&D management. Numerous certifications, including COSMIC, Function Point Specialist, PRINCE2, and Professional Scrum Master, complement his industry expertise. In the academic community, he contributes as a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and has served on program committees for international conferences, including co-chairing Mensura 2022/2023. His research focuses on the convergence of software engineering, machine learning, and large language models. Gabriele's leadership philosophy centers on collaborative achievement and effective communication. He excels at navigating ambiguity, building stakeholder consensus, and translating strategic vision into practical implementation—skills that make him equally effective in corporate boardrooms and university research environments.

Hobbies

First and foremost, I'm a passionate craft beer enthusiast who appreciates the art and science behind brewing traditions. This interest pairs naturally with my self-taught musical journey as a keyboardist and virtual instrument composer. One of my proudest accomplishments was having an original composition featured in the MINOTTI compilation. When not exploring musical expression or sampling new brews, I immerse myself in computer science literature, constantly expanding my technical knowledge beyond professional requirements and viewing it as both a career and a genuine interest that fuels my curiosity.

Approximate COSMIC size: the quick/early method (2014)
40th EUROMICRO Conference on Software Engineering and Advanced Applications

The COSMIC method counts data movements from/to storage and users, requiring data analysis typically unavailable during early project phases. We developed a Quick/Early measurement process applicable to use case models that reduces measurement time while maintaining accuracy. Our approach uses a specialized template that makes functional components easily identifiable without relying on scale factors. Case study testing demonstrated good accuracy.
